Top 5 of my favorite directors of all time | The WOW

Watching movies is everyone's favourite. They provide us with knowledge, different customs and traditions about the foreign world, and insights into human behaviour. Some movies are loved by the audience, while some of them are been detested. The movie's quality is detected by the way it has been directed. That's why the credit for any movie's success directly goes to its director. So today I am going to tell you about my top 5 favourite directors whom I personally like.

Note: Here I am not ranking any director on any basis of nominations. These are just my favourite directors whom I like. This blog does not mean any offence to any works or people.

These directors may not be everyone's favourite, and many of you might just disagree. Do tell me in the comments which directors do you like the most. Also, tell me what movies made by them do you like!

So without making you bored, let's move on to my ranking

5. George Lucas

There would be no man alive on this Earth who wouldn't have heard the name of Star Wars. George Lucas was born on 14 May 1944. He started his work with the film"THX 1138" in 1971, which was not much promoted by Warner Bros. Studios, and was not a big commercial success. Though failed in his first movie, Lucas did not lose hope, and triumphed in directing "American Graffiti" which was a great success on the box office, and was nominated for 5 Oscars, including best director and best Original Screenplay.

After American Graffiti, Lucas created one of the greatest series of all time, Star Wars. It is one of the highest-grossing series in the world. Star Wars consist of 9 movies, out of which the first 6 were directed by George Lucas along with Irvin Kershner and Richard Marquand, but after selling the rights to Walt Disney Animations in 2012, he lost his chairmanship from Lucas Films. I somehow feel that the first 6 movies were much better than the sequels, and the sequel's story got out of track from the original franchise. Lucas was also the director of the Indiana Jones series, which is also a great commercial success.

4. Christopher Nolan

The one who understands his movies on the first go has a great sense of conception. Nolan's movies are much arduous to understand. With movies like Inception, Interstellar, Tenet and Dunkirk, he has shown the world the meaning of uniqueness, and that he is no ordinary director. Nolan started his work with "The Following" in 1998, whose budget was $6,000 and gained $48,000, which was not a bad deal. After following, Nolan took no time to prove that he is formidable with his 2nd film "Memento." Creating such an excellent successful film only on the second try was really marvellous.

It's not only that the films Nolan created were hard to understand because of the complex storyline, but also because Nolan created them in that way. His way to present the plot was so extraordinary that if you customarily watch them, you will never get what was the point. It needs attention and you need to perceive every single scene to understand his work. Every time you watch his movie, I betcha you will get a new detail every single time. He was also the director of the Batman trilogy, which were the best movies in the whole DC Extended Universe, also The Dark Knight got a wonderful IMDB rating of 9.0, and is one of the highest IMDB rated movies after The Shawshank Redemption and The Godfather part 1 and 2.

3. Steven Spielberg

One of the greatest director and scriptwriter of all time, Spielberg began his work with "The Sugarland Express" in 1974. Though not a blockbuster, the film was a powerful start for Spielberg's career. Later on, Spielberg developed an interest in sci-fi movies, and created the greatest blockbuster of that time, "E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial." The movie was awarded 5 Academy Awards and was nominated for 9, including Best Picture and Best Director.

Spielberg's journey does not end here. E.T. was just the commencing, to show the film industry the taste of success. The winner of 5 Academy Awards and nominator of 14 Oscars, he now became astute to the industry. His movies do not stop getting oscar nominations since on. Some of his greatest works are Schindler's List (1993), Jaws (1975), Saving Private Ryan (1998), Lincoln (2012), The Jurassic Park Series (1993-2001), Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977) and many more. The list is literally endless. He has also directed some Indiana Jones movies and collaborated work with George Lucas.

2. James Cameron

James Cameron is a critically acclaimed film director known for some of the biggest box-office hits of all time. His movie Titanic and Avatar were the highest-grossing films of all time before Avengers Endgame came out. There would hardly be anyone who has not heard the name of Titanic and Avatar and also of their well-acclaimed director, Cameron. His first movie was an inferior, awful and unsuccessful film "Piranha II: The Spawning." But just like Christopher Nolan, his second work was a great blockbuster and a successful film, The Terminator. The Terminator was such a successful series that it is still going on now. Cameron directed the first two of the terminator series, and he worked for some of the later parts. Personally, I only liked the first two of the Terminator movies, because the rest lacked the art of directory to that of James Cameron, also because the story got out of the track like the Star Wars Sequels.

Let's talk about the work Cameron has been known for, Titanic and The Avatar. In 1997, Cameron directed the Titanic, which was the first competitor to won the highest number of Oscars (which is 11) and tied with Ben-Hur. The Titanic's procurement became so popular that it spread all over the world as an outstanding performance. In 2009, Cameron again directed the movie Avatar, which won 3 out of 9 Oscar nominations, and ever crossed the popularity of Titanic and became the highest-grossing movie of all time (before Endgame). James Cameron is now also directing the second and the third part of Avatar.

1. Peter Jackson

It was a very tough decision to choose between Cameron or Jackson. First I thought to give this position to Cameron, but then I compared The Lord of the Rings to The Titanic, and then I decided to give this position to Peter Jackson. The director of The Lord of the Rings, Peter Jackson started his work with Bad Taste. He is widely regarded for his work for the LOTR trilogy, and bringing the works of J.R.R Tolkien to screen was not an easy task to do. Tolkien's imagination was inestimable. To remake his mind's eye, his characters and his world was nearly impossible to do with today's technology. But Jackson made that if possible. His efforts to show people the inside of Tolkien's Middle Earth was so endeavour that it made people love it. The Lord of the Rings had some real magic, that made it so much successful, whereas the remake of The Hobbit Trilogy could not have.

The first movie in the trilogy, The Fellowship of the Ring, was itself nominated for 12 Oscars and won five. The second movie, The Two Towers, was nominated for 6 Oscars and won two.

The concluding movie, The Return of the King, was nominated for 12 Oscars, and won 11! Yes, the highest number of Oscar-winning movie, now ties between Titanic, Ben-Hur and The Return of the King. In total, the trilogy won 17 Oscars, and was nominated for 31! Never in the film industry, any movie series was nominated and won so many Oscar The LOTR also got an amazing IMDB rating, where the first movie got an IMDB rating of 8.8, the second one got 8.7 and the third one got 8.9, where all the three movies even separately defeat Titanic, which got an IMDB rating of 7.8. A trilogy like this might only be possibly be created in future, and thanks to JRR Tolkien and Peter Jackson to give us a wonderful story and movies. Peter also directed the remake of King Kong (1933) in 2005, which was nominated for 4 Oscars and won 3.
